Instagram Stories & Hotels: The Basics

Stories are ephemeral publications that last 24 hours only. Launched in July 2016 by Instagram (owned by Facebook), they are intended to encourage Internet users to publish more spontaneously.

Stories have turned out to be a great success. In 2017, more than 200 million users created stories! Which is doubly incredibly when you realize Instagram Stories has outpaced Snapchat, the originator of this kind of ephemeral social media.

So what about reactions and engagement? There are no public reaction to stories! Only the direct replies that fans and guests send you. This is yet another reason to publish what goes through your head.

So how to publish your first story?

If you want to get started, here’s how to proceed in a few steps:

  • Click on the + top-left
  • Take a photo or video (for the video, let it go) of 10 seconds or insert a photo from your phone, with a swipe up
  • Make a little decoration:
    • Write a text
    • Draw
    • Add a filter
    • Add emojis
  • Send!

However, if you want to take a story and publish it as a traditional publication, it is possible. Click on the 3 small dots at the bottom left of your story and select “Share a Publication”.

How to make a good story on Instagram?

Since we never give you advice halfway, here are some expert tips to turn a pleasant story into a captivating, effective, scroll-stopping piece of media!

  • Highlight the atmosphere: Spread the emotion of the moment, the destination!
  • The spectacular: The unusual has always been viral. Surprise viewers!
  • The artistic: Beautiful pictures make your story pleasant and viral!
  • Dynamic: Successions of photos or photos + videos are a good way to make your story alive!
  • And most importantly, the common thread: a story is a story (no joke). Tell a series of images that follow a thread!

And now, you have the basics to get into the stories. Next step: advertise with Instagram stories. Coming soon.
